How Individualism Trumps All – Harnessing Internet Knowledge

Yesterday, the iron clad line between enterprise content and individual content was as solid and real as a brick wall… today… not so much… that line has effectively disappeared.

Everything started with the Internet.  Remember the debates of the past about whether or not organisations should be providing internet access into the workplace, and how it would drastically impact productivity? Well… it sure did.

Today, organisations struggle in dealing with the explosion of content that resulted from the global adoption of the Internet, as well as how to manage the wealth of knowledge that is now available to both organisations and individuals.  In response to this explosion of knowledge, individuals have effectively replaced organisations as content and knowledge masters.   Gone are the days where organisations dominated the entertainment domain… now Youtube stars are appearing everywhere.  Gone are the days of enterprises blocking access to individual knowledge … the individual is content king now.  If I am an employee and my organization does not provide access to the web, mobile accessibility or social media access, I will do it on my own personal mobile device or my home computer… I am the king of my content domain, I am the captain of my ship.

To complicate, or help, matters even more, textual data has run its race … and lost.  Textual data is being replaced by video and voice.  I want access to my content, knowledge and services without having to browse 10 Internet sites for it and I don’t want to read 10 pages, I want them by video and on demand.

The future is one where my own personal Internet experience not only trumps my workplace restrictions but actually helps contribute to that workplace;  and the future is also one where video and voice control accesses to a plethora of existing textual data available on the world-wide-web… we have spent the last 15 years of Internet development building the foundation of textual data for the future, we have not developed technologies for the last 15 years, we have developed ways of making knowledge available to the masses… it is now time to evolve.

Don’t believe me… meet exhibit A… Maluuba (www.maluuba.com)

Maluuba is a small start-up in Kitchener being assisted by Communitech, a Canadian incubation centre for innovation.  Sam Pasupalak is the CEO of this company and he and his co-founders have discovered the one secret that matters, that the individual content experience trumps all else and that voice and video is the future.  Tapping into the endless data source that is the Internet, Maluuba can help you  individualize your search experience, placing you as King of the Hill in a world dominated by the searching of content.

Speak into your smart phone and it will search the endless content of the Internet and help you find the best flight, the best restaurant, from a certain period, at a certain time, within a certain distance, at a certain price range, etc.… just speak and your wish is your command, instantaneously making the Internet yours to command… speak and it shall be done, your own personalized knowledge base, you are the master of the Internet and its knowledge, you steer the ship.

“the world is individualistic now, everything was community based before because it was required“ states the CEO of Maluuba, the same is true for the Internet and its knowledge base.  What is exceptional about this statement is that by increasing the power of the individual through Maluuba-like technology, we are actually increasing the power of the enterprise, the globe and society in general.

The individualism realization is slowly making its way throughout the world and the enterprise, and Maluuba is a prime example of this new world reality.  A reality where people such as Sam Pasupalak help me, my individual self, make my digital life better and more simple by expanding my own personal capacities, and in doing so, Maluuba is equipping me to deal with the future of knowledge and contribute to a greater good.

The future is very cool!
